Travel | Best Places To Visit In Iceland Part One

Iceland

Iceland...What a place...Especially when you take an extremely long road trip through it! Those of you who are local readers to my blog, will know that I've been planning to going to Iceland for the past year and finally it was the time to go! Two weeks ago I went with a couple of family members for 4 days 3 nights and had a total of 2 full days exploring Iceland, Reykjavik and slightly further a field to be exact.

The day we flew out, our flight was delayed by around 30-40 minutes as the plane before that was delayed. We were waiting for a while before that for the gates to open and then again at the boarding gates. When we finally got on the plane we were still delayed by there not being enough room for people's luggage, so we had to wait for that to be put in the hold. As we finally took off, I was literally amazed at how fast the plane went and how such a huge machine could fly through the air carrying so much weight, I wouldn't question it as it got us there and back, it just amazes me! As I've mentioned in my Vlog of Iceland, I haven't been in a plane since I was 9 years old for a family wedding in Spain. I haven't travelled abroad since, due to how busy my life became, with school, exams, college, jobs etc. Which I'm not fussed about as there's plenty of time in the future to travel, and this year in 2016 is the year I start travelling. So let's get into this road trip post properly!

So, Day 1. The day we went out in our hire car out into Iceland seeking out adventure. We wanted to explore the Golden Circle, so we headed out to Thingvellir which we didn't even get to due to the first route we took being blocked by snow which you will see in my vlog below. So we took another route and this is where the road looked like the picture below. It was a pretty hairy ride through this as we were nervous about the car getting stuck, but luckily the car had snow tyres and we got through it. We came to a dead end and couldn't go any further due to the car not being a 4X4. So we had to head down the main route that goes around the whole of Iceland, Route 1.

We headed towards Selfoss (above) which I heard was a waterfall, the funny thing was, we stopped at a tourist information centre and asked where the waterfall was and they said it was 7 hours away and this was the town called Selfoss...Oops!

Luckily, the route towards Geysir was down the road, so we headed down that very long road hitting some extreme wind and some amazing mountainous landscapes until we finally reached Geysir. The place where you can see hot springs and gallons of water being sprayed into the air.

The fact that these pictures from Geysir I didn't even have to edit at all amazes me!

I luckily seen the Geysirs explode twice and captured them one time on camera but unfortunately not on video...I caught the Geysir just after it exploded on camera with the spray rolling down the hill which you will see on my vlog. You will also noticed the force of the wind up in Geysir within the vlog. I had my foot on a rock to stop me from blowing away, as I'd already been blown off my feet by the wind just walking up to this Geysir!

I really recommend you go and see Geysir though if you are ever in Iceland. The Golden Circle itself is a must. I defintely plan to go to Iceland again in the future as there is so much more I want to do in Iceland, from seeing the Northern Lights which I didn't see unfortunately this time around and I would also like to see a lot of the beautiful waterfalls they have there; especially Selandjafoss (which I think is called the Valley Of Tears?) and also Godafoss! Mainly the northern part of Iceland is where I want to visit next, as well as the volcanic beaches!

The interior within the eating area of Geysir was very different I must say...The view you had while sitting in this spot though was beautiful.

Back on the road again, we headed 10 kilometres down the road to Gullfoss which was literally a 10 minute drive. A quick tip if your heading up to Gullfoss, the wind is even more powerful up there before you walk down to the waterfall, so make sure your wrapped up warm and have some pretty good grip on your boots as well as a wind proof jacket - luckily I had both at this point but as I had my hood up, I couldn't see a thing due to the snow blowing into my face...I really should of thought about taking some ski glasses/goggles!

The beauty this planet holds, truly amazes me. I had to take a minute to physically pinch myself when I witnessed this amazing site. This has to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen so far in my travelling adventures.

I couldn't help but need to capture this beautiful site of  the snow drifting towards the sun on the walk back towards the car...

Never have I witnessed such beautiful sunsets in Iceland. Whether the direction of the sun setting is different or because the light bounces off the snow, I don't know, but either way, it made the sunsets look so beautiful and natural to see. I truly adore watching the sun go down, Yet am I to see the sun come up on a beach somewhere, hopefully in the Maldives one day...

Iceland

This was a little church we found while driving off into the night to the middle of nowhere to see if we could capture a glimpse of the Northern Lights (which, as I mentioned, we unfortunately didn't see. And that my friends, is the end of Day 1! Look out for Day 2 coming soon as well as my Part Two of my Iceland Vlog!

Thank you so much for reading! Have you ever been to Iceland? Would you ever go? Where would you visit or have you visited in Iceland?
