A Guide To A UK Road Trip On A Budget

My first road trip around the UK and it was so much fun! If you follow me on Instagram and/or Youtube you would of seen my UK Road Trip content, if not then you can watch my vlog here & check out my Instagram here. Today's post is a complete guide to getting yourself a trip away in the UK on a budget, whether you want to go to one place or 3 like we did, I'll explain to you how we not only stuck to a budget, but also saved money doing so.

Hotels

We had a right search on google and booking.com for the cheapest (decent) hotels we could find in Bournemouth, Bath & Bristol. Usually the cheapest ones are Travelodge and Premier Inn, so keep that in mind when looking around, but sometimes in certain areas there's even cheaper hotels that aren't bad to stay in. Like when we went to Bournemouth we stayed in the Britannia Hotel, which was okay to stay in but from my vlog you will say, it wasn't in the best state. But we only paid like £31 for one night there so we weren't too bother about it to be honest. Sometimes certain booking websites do discount codes also for hotels, as I recently got sent a discount code for booking.com so maybe signing up to their newsletter for discount can also save you that little bit of extra money. But mainly, just shop around on the hotels main website, as well as websites like booking.com.

Fuel

Of course this all depends on what car you have, how economical it is and how much fuel you are willing to use. Surprisingly, in my little Peugeot 206 we only needed the one full tank to get us the entire way there and back home. This is because we tried to walk places as much as we could, as parking was also an additional cost in certain places. Thankfully we always research where to park with the hotels we book at to see if we can get any free parking or any cheaper prices nearby, thankfully we didn't spend too much on parking, as like I said we walked most places and left the car at the hotel. I still can't believe we only filled up the tank once and it got us the ENTIRE way! My car is only a 1.4 litre and it did rather well in my eyes.

Food & Drink

Now this all depends on your taste, how much you want to spend or save on food and drink. Our favourite things were the lunch meal deals from supermarkets like Tesco & Sainsbury's. These meal, drink and snack deals for £3.50 were a life saver on cash. We didn't spend a fortune eating out and it was also so much healthier for us to do this kind of lunch on the daily. Plus, it finally gave me chance to try out the veggie options in the meal deal section as I am the fussiest eater going for a vegetarian/vegan - as I don't like mayo, tomatoes, onions, coleslaw, mushrooms and so many other things unfortunately.

As for breakfast, I know I'm doing this in a very odd order as breakfast usually is mentioned first, but basically, I bought ready to eat pancakes, croissants and porridge squares with me for breakfast for the 4 days, and Adam brought his porridge sachets with him so he could make full use of the kettles in the hotel rooms. So this also saved us a good maybe £10 a day on breakfast if we were to eat out daily. We also took lots of water bottles with us in the car to save us money on buying drinks during our road trip.

Dinner was where we ate out each night, this was our daily treat, but we still didn't go too far with how much we spent on food. Seeing as neither of us drink (well I rarely drink alcohol and Adam isn't one for drinking anymore either), it saved us a lot of money. So we mainly had soft drinks, or I had mocktails. Certain restaurants are also still part of the Eat Out To Help Out scheme, so this is something to also look out for to save you extra money.

Spending Money

Of course again, this depends on what you want to buy, whether it be souvenirs which can be rather cheap, clothes, anything really. You could always put yourself on a budget for spending money, we didn't really put a budget on this, well I know I didn't as I went to 3 different Primark's as I am obsessed with Primark as we may well know from all my haul videos on my YouTube channel. So of course this is completely down to you.
