Nestled in the heart of Castle Combe, one of the most picturesque and iconic villages in the Cotswolds, The Manor House is the kind of hotel that belongs on every travel lover’s bucket list. For years, it’s had pride of place on my Pinterest boards, and after finally staying there, I can confidently say it’s one of the dreamiest and most unforgettable hotels I’ve had the pleasure of visiting.
From the moment you arrive, you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The Manor House is steeped in history, with architecture and charm that transport you to a bygone era, yet it still offers all the modern comforts you’d hope for in a luxury escape.
We stayed in the Old Orchard Room, which was nothing short of spectacular. With a grand four-poster bed, breathtaking views across the grounds, and a beautifully modern bathroom, it felt like a true fairytale retreat. The bathroom featured a huge walk-in shower with built-in jets, a deep soaking bathtub, and his-and-hers sinks. And the bed? Genuinely one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in, I had one of the best night’s sleep in ages!
The grounds of the hotel are vast and absolutely stunning, with acres of beautifully manicured land to explore. There’s even an on-site golf club for those wanting to enjoy a round in peaceful countryside surroundings. One of my favourite spots was the garden at the top of the grand staircase, not only is it a peaceful escape, but it’s also the perfect photo opportunity for Instagram.
The Manor House is full of character, with plenty of cosy rooms and hidden corners to discover. You can enjoy a game of chess overlooking the lawn, indulge in afternoon tea, or dine in the elegant hotel restaurant. Alternatively, take a short stroll into the village and dine at The Castle Inn, a charming and rustic pub owned by the Manor House itself.
We enjoyed a wonderful three-course dinner at The Castle Inn. I started with the celeriac and apple soup, while my fiancĂ© chose the Castle Inn bread box. For mains, I opted for the fennel and lentil dhal, I can never resist a good curry-inspired dish, and Adam had the fish and chips, which I sampled too (the batter was wonderfully crispy!). For dessert, I went with the lemon meringue bomb paired with raspberry sorbet, which was divine, I’d return just for that. My fiancĂ© had the chocolate nemesis, which was equally stunning in presentation and taste.
The next morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast back at The Manor House. The continental spread included fresh fruit, pastries, cereals, and juices, while the hot breakfast menu offered comforting classics. I had the French toast with berries and Adam went for the porridge with fruit, both beautifully presented and full of flavour.
Every element of our stay felt special, and what truly stood out was the service. Every staff member we encountered was warm, friendly, and incredibly helpful, it’s that kind of hospitality that makes a lasting impression.
Whether you’re looking for a romantic escape, a countryside retreat, or even a wedding venue (yes, you can get married here!), The Manor House is a true hidden gem. I honestly couldn’t recommend it more, it’s an unforgettable experience from start to finish.
