Wow, what a whirlwind of emotions this performance brought to me. A Monster Calls took me through every emotion going, from feeling scared, startled, upset, happy and making me feel grateful for the people & opportunities I have in life. Let me take you through my thoughts on this incredible journey of A Monster Calls...
A Monster Calls is based on a young boy going through a tough time with his mother being ill, I won't go too much into detail as you really should go and see this for yourself. But the actors take you through such a brilliant production with a tree - made up of the ropes to represent the tree as you can see in the photos, this basically teaches the young boy to not only learn the truth, but to accept the truth, the truth being about we lose our loved ones one day. Which is a lesson to be learnt here. We shouldn't take our loved ones for granted, as they can be taken away from us at any moment. We all want to be told everything is okay when we know it's not, so we hide the truth deep inside of us and try not to accept the truth. This is what I came away with from this show, also me leaving absolutely sobbing my heart out, as it certainly pulled at my heart strings.
I honestly was not expecting such an emotional rollercoaster from this show. The whole cast were absolutely brilliant at showcasing this beautifully truthful story that I'm sure made a few people think when it comes to losing loved ones one day and being able to take the truth and accept things in life, but also be grateful for who you have and what you have. I want to personally thank the whole cast and production team for putting together such a powerful and moving performance that I honestly will never forget. A Monster Calls is on between Tuesday 3rd March to Saturday 7th March at the Belgrade Theatre Coventry.
