Voted the 'Best Luxury City Hotel' by The World Luxury Hotel Awards, Hotel Gotham is definitely a 5 star hotel that should be on your list to stay at if you are planning a trip to Manchester. Myself and my partner went for a 1 night staycation to Manchester to stay at Hotel Gotham, a 5 star luxury hotel with an exquisite taste in modern interior design. Think monochrome geometric carpets, high ceiling bedroom windows, dark wood and leather features. It gives off a luxurious great Gatsby vibe and I'm so here for it. Let's dive in to how I found our stay.
First of all, let's talk about the architecture of Hotel Gotham. Standing tall at the end of King Street in Manchester. Reminding me of the series Gotham with the lit up walls, really gives off Batman vibes, or is it just me? Hotel Gotham is a listed building which was the former premises of Midlands Bank. Perfect photo spot in Manchester for those who love a neutral background for the gram or a dark academia vibe.
Hotel Gotham is also located in the heart of Manchester City centre where you are a 3 minute walk from the Arndale shopping centre, right next to all the different restaurants and bars as well. Perfect location to stay at if you ask me. Also parking isn't too much hassle, as you can get valet parking for £40, or park on the street and top up every 2 hours (free 8pm-8am but make sure your car is registered so you don't get a ticket), or there's NCP car park at the top of the street where you can park.
Rooms
As for the rooms, we stayed in the Club room, which is the smallest room and most affordable price at Hotel Gotham starting at £199.00+ a night. This room has beautiful decor with a king size bed, Egyptian cotton bed sheets, with a gorgeous faux fur throw which I thought was a luxurious touch. Super comfortable bed to sleep in as well.
The Club Room has a luxurious ensuite with gorgeous marble and large shower space with overhead waterfall style shower. I loved how much space there was in the bathroom, as some hotels lack in space with bathrooms, but this one was lovely. The room also has a mini bar which you can purchase drinks, from soft drinks to spirits. There's an expresso machine with various hot drinks available. A sweet touch was a little jar of biscuits, which I didn't even get a look in with as my partner ate them both whilst I was enjoying some self care time in the shower. The prices of the minibar, room service and more were inside the Gotham Bugle, a fabulous paper that each room has with different information in the form of a old style newspaper. I loved how different this idea was, very unique and not something you come across very much in hotels.
Overall the room was lovely, but I do think we would have preferred the Executive room as these are typically 30 square metres with a bit more room than the Club room being 26 square metres.
Hotel Gotham also has other rooms available; Directors room, Gotham Suite, Bank Managers Suite and Inner Sanctum Suite. All such fabulous looking rooms from the photos. I would definitely love to stay in one of those next time we visit.
Service
As for the service of all the staff, it was top notch and you could not fault them. Every single member of staff we were greeted by were extremely helpful, well mannered and overall, just a pleasure to be around. I can see why this hotel is 5 star, and the staff certainly give it that 5 star luxury feeling. They even went a step further and rang up to our room to ask when we would like to be booked for afternoon tea as I mentioned it when we checking in. These little things honestly made our stay so much better. The fact they take note of things and go the extra mile to make you feel at home and welcome. The best way for me to describe them is just an overall exquisite team. Fabulous!
Onsite Facilities
Hotel Gotham has it's own Honey restaurant where you can wine and dine, enjoy breakfast or even afternoon tea and admire their beautiful grand piano - which I really wish I could have a house big enough to have one of them! Upstairs they have their own bar called Club Brass which has such a fantastic Great Gatsby vibe to it with a rooftop terrace, which I'm sure would be lovely to go out and enjoy in the summer watching the sunset over the Manchester skyscrapers. With a range of drinks including mocktails for those like me, who much prefer non alcoholic drinks. They also have their own speakeasy called Gilt which I didn't realise they even had until writing this. Think 1930's Gatsby, Jazz, Big Band etc. A fabulous place for meetings also.
The one thing I do feel is missing from this fabulous hotel, would be a spa. I felt it could have really benefited from having a spa facility somewhere in the building, especially with having robes in the hotel rooms. Would be such a great addition if they were to add one somewhere.
Food
We had the breakfast and afternoon tea at the hotel, so I can't comment on the dinner as we didn't include this or try it during our stay. The breakfast was a wide variety of a continental style breakfast with lovely fresh pastries, cereals, cheese, meats, fruit, juices and more. Alongside a menu filled with a wide range of hot cooked breakfasts. I went for the buttermilk pancakes with blueberries and honey which were divine. Alongside a pot of English breakfast tea. My partner had a bowl of the healthy breakfast which was a chia pudding style breakfast which he thoroughly enjoyed, next to a couple of cups of delicious coffee - which they had stencilled the Gotham logo 'G' on top which I thought was a fabulous on brand touch.
As for the afternoon tea, it was delightful. I had a vegan afternoon tea whilst my partner had a normal afternoon tea. Both tiers came with sandwiches, scones which stayed lovely and warm in the napkins they were wrapped in and divine little cakes. This was a lovely Christmas treat that my partner got me from Buy a Gift, as Hotel Gotham also do vouchers for different experiences in the hotel. This was a lovely addition to our stay.
I would highly recommend staying at Hotel Gotham, but I would recommend going for an Executive room or bigger, as the Club room, as lovely as it was, for the price we paid, would of been better if we had a bigger room, but it was a fabulous stay non the less. It still had everything we needed in there, but of course there are options for nicer and bigger rooms for more space. If we were to visit again, I would definitely love to stay and experience one of the suites. Hotel Gotham is also a fabulous place to choose for say a special occasion like a birthday, valentines day, city break or even an anniversary celebration.
Overall, I could not fault Hotel Gotham, the staff I have to say made our stay and were absolutely wonderful. In my opinion, it's the service of a place that makes it, and Hotel Gotham definitely house the most exquisite hospitality team.
