Looking at visiting Amsterdam? You've come to the right place on all the things you can do in Amsterdam in 72 hours which you can fit in during a mini city break. I'll also include an itinerary for you at the end of this post that you can follow along if you like. It's made in a way that is time saving & has everything nearby on the itinerary.
Museums
Amsterdam has so many museums to visit & it's honestly worth visiting a fair few during your trip. The ones I recommend the most are:
- Anne Frank Museum
- Van Gogh Museum
- Moco Museum
- Rijksmuseum
- Tony's Chocolonley Museum
- Sex Museum
Where possible, especially for Anne Frank, Van Gogh, Moco & Rijksmuseum, book in advanced online as you'll save yourself time queuing, potentially save money & not miss out. We managed to get Anne Frank's museum in the evening, as almost the whole day was sold out. So make sure to book well in advance to save disappointment.
A'DAM Lookout
If you're after a view of all of Amsterdam, this is a fab spot to visit. We pre-booked this but it wasn't busy on the door, but we did saved a few euros booking online as we paid 16.50 euros each. There is a swing you can add to your ticket for an added price, but I'm not a fan of that sort of thrill at such a height so we skipped that. There's an A'DAM sign at the very top of the building that's worth a photo stop, as well as a lovely area you can explore at the top of the building. If I remember correctly, there's also a bar that we stopped at for a refreshing drink.
Canal Cruise
Did you even go to Amsterdam if you didn't go on a canal cruise? It's such a pleasant and insightful tour around Amsterdam by boat, you get to see areas of the city you wouldn't necessarily see by foot. There's lots of places you can catch these from, but the main area is in Damrak and they don't cost too much. Or you can book online & maybe find a cheaper alternative.
Markets
Amsterdam is well known for its Bloemenmarkt with its beautiful tulips in the spring season. A gardeners dream that's for sure down this canalside market. Also a lovely photo spot for the Instagrammers. Another market to visit is Lindengracht, but we didn't visit this one with it being so far away from our hotel, but if you end up near the A'DAM look out, maybe add it to your itinerary to check out.
Food To Try
Dutch pancakes are a must to try whilst in Amsterdam. Mama Pancakes we tried dutch pancakes at which was nice, but the service and cleanliness was rather poor. A place called Pancakes near the Amsterdam Central Station we tried and was quite nice with decent sized pancakes with lots of different types of toppings to choose from. They also gave us a cute clog keyring with their logo on as a free souvenir to takeaway.
Make sure to try out stroopwaffles, especially from the famous Van Wonderen Stroopwaffles, be sure to go early though as the queue here gets crazy. Or support a smaller business and try from somewhere else with less of a queue.
Damrak
The famous Amsterdam photo spot. There's so many versions of photos of this spot in Amsterdam. Again, did you even go to Amsterdam if you didn't get a photo here.
I AM AMSTERDAM Sign
When we visited, this was located at the airport, but do have a google search to see if it still is, as I know they do tend to move the signs around at different times of the year. Another tourist hot spot for a photo.
Red Light District
This may not be for everybody, but you really do see a different side of Amsterdam down this strip of the city.
